  Welcome from the Director

As Winter throws its frigid blanket over much of the country, it is heartwarming to be planning our Spring Calendar at Stillpoint. The promise of new life and growth every year from Mother Nature has never ceased to fill me with awe. It is with that sense of promise that we look forward to the programs and all that Stillpoint offers in this Spring Calendar. We hope that you will receive them as opportunities for the “greening” of the soul.

We look forward to 2007 as a year of growth at Stillpoint in a physical sense also. As you know we launched our first ever Fund Raising Campaign last Fall under the enthusiastic baton of Board member Andrea Goeglein. The letter of appeal, which you received in December, has already resulted in your generous donations of $70,000. It is heartening and humbling to see the financial temperature rising each day, on the “thermometer” which Betty Scott designed and displays at Reception. Thank you to all who have made the sacrifice and included Stillpoint in your charitable donations. We are still expecting to reach our target of $160,000.

Your generosity has enabled us to implement some of our dreams and plans. We plan to expand into the adjacent suite in March. New staff includes Abbot Mark Serna, from the Benedictine Monastery at Portsmouth, Rhode Island, who will take up his position as Associate Director in February. We welcome Mark, and I look forward to his person and presence, as a colleague and a rich resource at Stillpoint. I am grateful and blessed with our dedicated administrative staff, our committed Board of Directors, our volunteers and friends who row in with their time and talent, our professional staff Kathy Oettinger and Renee LeStrange, who together collaborate to make the vision and mission of Stillpoint a reality and gift for Southern Nevada.

In the spirit of newness and hope in a world that is hungering for both, I send you blessings and trust that you will find much to delight you in our Spring Calendar. Stillpoint is “a gathering place that is hospitable to and nourishing of the spiritual life.” That includes just coming to sit in our mediation room, walk in our courtyard, read in our library, or just stop by when you feel drawn to stillness.

I send you Blessings and Peace.
